Chapter 3: Requisites for the artist
In order to do business as an artist, there are some necessary requisites. Here are some suggestions and links.
BUSINESS CARDS & GREETING CARDS
Full color printing for business and greeting cards has never been so reasonable. If you shop for online sales, you often can find prices cheaper than the cost of ink to print them yourselves. Here are three sources that I use. One of the sources always seem to a great deal. Note that some printers require CMYK files, which are not the same as RGB files, which are the most common.
I used to give a workshop on digital photography for the artist and have worked with dozens of different makes. For me the clear-cut winner were the Canon cameras which are intuitive to operate and the color technology was superior to the others. For artists color technology is more important than resolution. My experience is that their is a great cost saving when you purchase last year's technology. I have learned to avoid online camera retailers which often try to upgrade you from loss leader advertising. It is hard to beat the prices on Amazon and Ebay.
Developing your own website requires quite a bit of knowledge and for many artists it is not worth the investment in time. Fortunately, there are many website developers available and there are sites dedicated exclusively to artist sites. Here are a few.
Probably the most popular of the providers with different plans from $14 to $42. Also provides some promotion and contests.
Offers many of the same services as FASO with a similar pricing structure. Some promotion.
Provides sites for other creative practitioners including fine artists. Site includes a comparison of other competitors. Also offers a print on demand feature.
